Okra Medical has solved the problem of disposing of highly-addictive controlled substances, such as opioids. By chemically denaturing controlled substances* to the point that they are no longer available for abuse, our SafeMedWaste product suite easily renders controlled substances* non-retrievable and non-recoverable.

Safe, Affordable, Effective

Our SafeMedWaste products meet all of the applicable requirements of the DEA and EPA. Our goal is to combat the opioid epidemic by attacking the problem at its source. Okra Medical is dedicated to impacting the social problem of addiction, both in healthcare facilities and in communities nationwide by providing an easily implemented, safe, and cost-effective method to destroy highly addictive substances.

Our Innovation

We are designing and marketing our products much differently than others. Our Okra Medical team designs products with the end user in mind, while also taking into account substances of varying forms. Controlled substance waste can be solid or liquid. Pills, patches, powders, and liquids require specific solutions for complete destruction of all forms. Okra Medical focuses on providing independent scientific evidence that all products will render discarded controlled substances* 100% non-retrievable, using chemical techniques that cannot be reversed.

Our SafeMedWaste product suite provides a safe, environmentally friendly, and cost-effective solution to ending the life cycle of highly-addictive controlled substances*, including opioids.  SafeMedWaste completely chemically destroys controlled substances* that are often found in hospitals, hospice, law enforcement agencies, pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities and veterinary care clinics. SafeMedWaste helps eliminate the threat of diversion and misuse.

SafeMedWaste is the only disposal solution with verified DEA-licensed laboratory results proving effectiveness with a wide variety of controlled substances*, and allowing DEA registrants to effortlessly maintain compliance.

Drugs 100% Denatured
by SafeMedWaste

SafeMedWaste’s single formula safely breaks the chemical bonds of addictive compounds rendering them 100% non-retrievable and non-recoverable when they are no longer needed or useful. Simply place controlled substances* into one of our product containers, similar to how medical professionals discard syringes.

Our products’ chemical process is irreversible and does not rely on absorption to bind substances. Our SafeMedWaste products break down controlled substances* to the point where they cannot be reformulated.

SafeMedWaste effectively denatures more than 30 addictive substances in varying concentrations. Currently, Okra Medical is expanding this list by performing thorough analysis on the efficacy of SafeMedWaste products on other controlled substances*.

HPLC/MS and/or HPLC/DAD results are available for each substance upon request. Testing was completed by an independent lab that is FDA- Registered, DEA-Licensed, GMP/GLP-Compliant, and REACH/RoHS Compliant.

HPLC-MS results validating that SafeMedWaste is effective on each controlled substance individually and as a mixture.

BETA test results also available show that SafeMedWaste is effective in real-world scenarios.

Testing performed on SafeMedWaste to date: TCLP ( Toxicity characteristics and leach protocol), Off-Gassing, Ignitability/Flamability, Corrosivity, and transportation.
